100% Cabernet Franc. The six-hectare Grande Vignolle lieu-dit sits on a chalk cliff on calcareous clay soils, set back from the Loire River on a high plateau. The vines are 35-40 years old and lie at the northern limit of the Saumur-Champigny appellation. The fruit is hand-harvested, destemmed and fermented with natural yeasts in steel tank, with a maceration of approximately 2 weeks. The wine is aged in steel tank and is the one exception to the house practice of gentle filtration: long ago at the request of their American importers, Joe Dressner and Denyse Louis, Fillliatreau agreed to bottle this parcel without any filtration (not their general practice because of their perception that the Paris market would not be receptive to unfiltered wines).
